Terms
The terms, in plain words.
For ordering through CaterRail, and for its text messages: what you get, how often, and how to stop.
Last updated October 14, 2026
The service
CaterRail runs catering and office lunch ordering for restaurants: the ordering pages on a restaurant’s own site, the messages about an order, and HQ, where the restaurant runs its orders. These terms apply when you order through CaterRail or use HQ.
Your order is with the restaurant
When you place an order, you’re ordering from the restaurant. The restaurant sets its menu, prices, fees, delivery area, notice and cancellation terms, which are shown before you order, and it makes and delivers the food. Your card is held when you order and charged when the restaurant accepts the order, by Stripe on the restaurant’s account. Questions about an order go to the restaurant, whose phone number is on every order page and email.
Allergies
Allergies you declare are passed to the kitchen on the ticket and the labels. Ingredient and allergen information comes from the restaurant. If an allergy is serious, call the restaurant to confirm before you order.
Text message terms
CaterRail sends text messages on behalf of the restaurants that use it. You get texts only if you agreed to them, and each kind is its own choice:
- Order updates: when your order is confirmed, changes or arrives, if you ticked “Text me updates about this order”.
- Lunch group texts: when your group’s lunch opens, a reminder before it closes, when it arrives, and answers to your replies (for example “1” to add your usual), if you joined a lunch group with your mobile number.
- Offers: from the restaurant, if you ticked “Text me offers”.
- Restaurant alerts: new orders and reminders, to staff numbers the restaurant’s owner adds in HQ.
Message frequency varies with your orders and your group’s lunches; lunch groups usually mean a few texts a week. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop texts, and HELP for help. After STOP you’ll get one text confirming it and no more; reply START to turn them back on. Carriers aren’t liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Your agreeing to texts is never a condition of buying anything. Help: [email protected]. How mobile numbers are handled is in the privacy policy.
Receipts and updates about your orders come by email. Offers come only if you asked for them, and each one has an unsubscribe link.
Restaurants using HQ
Keep your sign-in to yourself, and turn on two-step sign-in. Owners decide who on their team sees which locations, and are responsible for the numbers and addresses they add for alerts. Use customer information only to serve the customer’s orders and as they agreed to.
Fair use
Don’t misuse CaterRail: no fake orders, no attempts to get into accounts or data that aren’t yours, and no use that breaks the law or harms the service or anyone using it.
The fine print
CaterRail is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and accurate, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, CaterRail isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
Changes and contact
If these terms change, we’ll update this page and its date. Questions: [email protected]. CaterRail, Syracuse, New York.
